Sultan Ali Campus, Ida Rieu School for the Blind, Rashidabad


Sulatan Ali Campus is located in Rashidabad, District Tando Allahyar, Sindh. Considering the huge blind population in Sindh which is currently 340,000 and increasing at the rate of 1.08%, the management of IRWA and Rashid Memorial Welfare Organization (RMWO) agreed to join hands and establish a school complex for the visually impaired at Rashidabad in February 2013. Ground breaking of this project took place in August 2013 and construction was completed in May 2015.

Ida Rieu has started its operations at Rashidabad by holding a Soft Opening Ceremony of Sultan Ali Campus on 4th October 2015. Enrollment, assessment and placement of students for Fall 2015 is currently in progress. In the first phase, IRWA has launched classes 0 to 2 (Montessori to grade 2) at Rashidabad. The school is an English medium and co-education. Later, it will gradually expand its operations.

The objective behind launching this unique project is to empower the visually impaired persons in rural Sindh through access to a customized education system that will develop their intellectual, social and vocational potential. The teachers and staff for Rashidabad are recruited from Tando Allahyar area and a comprehensive training program was offered to them.

Construction of the main school block has been generously sponsored by Mr Shahnawaz Ali, a successful businessman based in Texas, USA. It is being named after his father, Mr. Sultan Ali. The Sultan Ali Campus, Ida Rieu School for the Blind at Rashidabad is spread over 1.75 acres with 100,00 sqft. (approx.) covered area including:

  • Hostel accommodation for 100 girls
  • Hostel accommodation for 100 boys
  • Residential units for faculty & staff
